I read a story in our local newspaper this month about someone who purchased a used vehicle.  Six months later the engine caught on fire.  It turns out the vehicle was part of a flood damaged lot purchased from Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina.  These vehicles can be legally sold, however they're VIN Numbers are supposed to be "tagged" as flood damaged as part of their title.  This one either wasn't by error, or more likely fraudulently.

I don't know if this exists, but there should be a central directory of flood-damaged vehicles on the internet so someone looking for a previously owned vehicle can cross-reference the VIN#.

Does anyone know if anything like that exists?
