I plan to buy a 2009 matrix ,

is the 1.8L with manual transmission sufficient or should I go for the optional 2.4L  with manual also ...

fuel consumption is important ....but if 2.4L has only 3 mpg difference i'd prefer the 2.4L

in canada the 1.8L ois rated at 46 mpg  and the 2.4L is rated at 41 mpg ( but these are never realistic)

anyone owns one already and verified the fuel consumption thanks
Dan

Dan, I would get 1.8L.  I drive Corolla and they both use identical engines.  If you are looking to keep the car for long time 10 years+ -- go for 2.4 liters.

we do plan to keep the car 10 years ...
and the 2.4L is the camry engine

it is just the: power versus fuel consumption that wories us .....

what does a 2.4L camry does compare to a 1.8L corolla ( corolla is lighter though)

I don't know man, I only drove Matrix once.  It was 1.8 liter 2005 model and drove exactly the same as Corolla.
